"Necrocore - Noise Healing"
Jena Jang is a South Korean audiovisual artist exploring vocal improvisation, experimental music, harsh noise, DIY instruments, and performance art. Currently based in Prague, Czechia, they navigate diverse sonic and cultural landscapes on a global scale. Using high-pitched frequencies crafted with hand-built synthesisers, extended vocal improvisation, and power electronics, their work transforms trauma and liberates the mind from anguish.
They define their unique sound as Necrocore-an alternative sonic medicine for trauma healing that exorcises negative energy and channels a warrior spirit through raw, cathartic performance. Their creative process fuses experimental noise and DIY instrument-building with influences from Buddhist chanting, yogic breathwork, throat singing, and traditional Korean music such as Pansori, Samulnori, and shamanic rituals, producing an eerie, ghostly sound that serves as a transformative act of release.
Recent milestones have further elevated their profile. A major performance at Cafe OTO alongside Saadet Türköz, presented by the respected Chinabot label, marked a significant step in their career. Additionally, Chinabot introduced their one-hour mix on Radio Alhara, which was also streamed on Radio Lora in Zurich. In 2024, they collaborated with bela (DE/KR) during a residency at MeetFactory alongside Mvd0ae (MX/CZ). In 2023, they joined forces with Udasi (FI) and Mia Zabelka (AT) at the Contingent Snapshot event, part of the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz.
