HANS RICHTER, WALTER RUTTMANN - Raphael Vanoli & Seamus Cater & Mark4Reel
In the quest of this theme of the festival, we look back to the avant-garde cinema of the last century. Amsterdam based guitar player, composer and improviser, Raphael Vanoli (KNALPOT) plays a solo set on avant-garde films of Hans Richter and a duo piece with Seamus Cater on duet concertina on the film Opus 1 by Walter Ruttmann. At the heart of this evening is as with many performances CineSonic a cross-fertilization between existing experimental cinema and contemporary new composed music .
Raphael Vanoli: electric guitar & Seamus Cater: duet concertina, voice
Vanoli creates unheard textures by using blowing techniques on his electric guitar. His music takes the form of uneven telluric soundscapes and has elements of minimalistic song. At times loud and extreme, Vanoli's music is especially meditative and body friendly. It hits the soul with waves of empathy. Seamus Cater uses simplified as well as extended forms and instrumental techniques. Quietness, focus and trance are major factors in his performances, where songs weave webs slowly around listeners. A relationship to folk revivalism is always acknowledged.
DJ TUNN PEPPARKAKA will be playing a selection of tunes before and after the performance.
